Charge more for weekend or evening bookings in Wix Bookings
By Caner Kaya, Kayabyte
Wix Bookings can’t change a service’s price by day, time or date on its own. Wix confirms this in a feature request: “it is not possible to set different prices for services based on the date of the booking”. The built-in workaround is a separate service for weekends or evenings, with its own price and its own hours.
Here is how that works, what the other built-in options do and don’t do, and where you need something extra.
Option 1: a separate weekend or evening service
This is the most reliable free way, because the client can only book the higher price at the times you allow.
- In your site’s dashboard, go to Booking Services.
- Click + Add a New Service and set it up like your normal one. Name it so clients understand, for example “Massage (weekends)”.
- In the Price & payment section (some Wix articles say “Pricing & payment”), choose Fixed price and enter the weekend price.
- Under Staff & availability, turn on Limit service availability and choose Limit by days and hours. Pick Saturday and Sunday, or your evening hours, and save.
- Click Preview Availability to see the times clients will actually be offered.
- Open the original service and limit it to weekdays or daytime the same way.
Wix explains the availability settings in Creating an appointment service.
For holidays, the same section has Limit by date range, so you can make a “Christmas week” service that’s only bookable between two dates.
The downsides: your service list doubles, clients see two versions of everything, and every change to a description or photo has to be made twice. I also couldn’t find Wix documentation on how two services that share a staff member’s calendar interact, so book a test on each before you go live.
Option 2: varied pricing (only if you trust clients to pick)
In the service’s price section you can choose Varied pricing (some Wix articles call it “Varied prices”), set a default amount, and click + Add Variations. Wix covers this in Selecting how you charge for services.
For appointments, Wix lets the variations depend on the client or service type, the duration or the staff member. Pricing by staff member is a real built-in way to charge more for a senior therapist or trainer.
You could also add options named “Weekday” and “Weekend”. But nothing in Wix’s documentation ties an option to the booked day. As far as I can tell, the client chooses it, so someone booking a Saturday can still pick “Weekday”. It works for honest regulars, not as a rule.
Two more limits from Wix’s own pages: you can’t combine price options, and clients can’t reschedule sessions booked with varied pricing.
Option 3: service add-ons
Wix Bookings now has service add-ons: paid extras you set up in the Add-ons section of a service (up to 3 groups of 7 add-ons on appointments, 1 group on classes and courses). They’re great for “hot stones +15”, but Wix describes them as “optional extras clients can add”. There’s no setting to make one required, so they can’t enforce a weekend fee.
Where the built-in options stop
These cases have no built-in setting in Wix Bookings today:
- One service, automatic weekend price. A Saturday booking costs more without a second service in the list.
- Evening rates that cross midnight, such as a late-night rate from 22:00 to 02:00.
- A fee on specific holidays without building a holiday copy of each service.
- Last-minute bookings. Charging more when the session starts within 24 hours.
- Group surcharges. Extra for bookings above a group size.
Wix also says in another feature request that “it is not possible to add extra charges to services”, such as a processing fee or a travel fee. Wix does let you add fees to an existing order by hand (its help article notes this isn’t available to everyone yet), but nothing is added automatically.
Developers can price bookings with code through Wix’s Bookings pricing service plugin, but it needs approval from Wix and a developer to build and maintain.
An app that adds the surcharge at checkout
Full disclosure: I make Booking Fees & Surcharges. You keep one service at its normal price, and the app adds a surcharge at checkout when the conditions match: days of the week, a start-time window (one that runs past midnight works), specific dates, last-minute bookings, group size, chosen services or chosen staff. The surcharge is a fixed amount per booking, a fixed amount per participant, or a percentage, and it shows as its own named line at checkout.
What it doesn’t do: the service page and booking calendar still show your base price, so mention weekend or evening rates in the service description to avoid surprises. It can’t give discounts for quiet hours, because Wix only lets apps add fees, not negative amounts. Surcharges aren’t taxed unless you switch tax on for them. If the app can’t calculate a surcharge in time, none is added and the booking goes through. The free plan runs one surcharge at a time.
You can find it on the Wix App Market.
FAQ
Can I set a different price for one specific date in Wix Bookings? Not on the same service. Make a copy of the service limited to that date range with Limit by date range, or use a surcharge app.
Can I add a percentage booking or processing fee in Wix Bookings? Not in Bookings’ own settings; Wix lists extra charges as a feature request. Wix’s newer Additional fees section in Checkout Settings can add a fixed or percentage fee at checkout, but its help article doesn’t say whether that covers bookings, so try it with a test booking. Otherwise the options are adding a fee to each order by hand, an app, or custom code.
Do add-ons work with pricing plans? No. Wix says add-ons aren’t available for free services or for services that can only be booked with a pricing plan.
