The download is the full app. Without a licence it runs as the free preview: every feature, up to 50 messages per export, and the PDF carries the watermark “PREVIEW, NOT FOR FILING”. When you buy a licence, you enter the key in the same app.

System requirements

A Mac with macOS 14 (Sonoma) or later, Apple silicon or Intel.
An iPhone backup made in Finder on that Mac (or on an external drive), or messages in the Messages app on the Mac. See How to make an iPhone backup on a Mac.
Full Disk Access for Exhibitly, which you turn on in System Settings > Privacy & Security. macOS protects the folders where backups and messages are kept; the app shows you how when you first open it.
Free disk space for the export: about the size of the conversation’s photos and videos, plus a little for the PDF and Excel file.

Installing

Open Exhibitly.dmg and drag Exhibitly to the Applications folder.
Open Exhibitly from Applications.

Exhibitly is signed with our Apple Developer ID and notarised by Apple: Apple has checked it for malicious software, so macOS opens it without a warning about an unidentified developer. macOS may still ask once whether you want to open an app downloaded from the internet. Updates come from inside the app (Exhibitly > Check for Updates).
