How to sync Square inventory with your Wix store
By Kayabyte
Wix Stores has no built-in link to Square for Retail or the Square Point of Sale app, so a sale in your shop doesn’t lower your online stock on its own. To keep one stock count you either update both sides by hand, move stock with spreadsheet exports, or use an app that syncs Square and Wix as sales happen. This guide covers all three, and what to check first so the sync doesn’t oversell.
What Wix and Square can do on their own
- Wix connects Square to Wix Restaurants only. In 2026 Wix added a Square POS connection for Wix Restaurants Orders. It doesn’t cover Wix Stores products and stock.
- Wix POS is Wix’s own point of sale. If you’re willing to switch from Square, Wix POS shares stock with your Wix store out of the box. Most shops that ask this question want to keep Square.
- Square Online is Square’s own web shop. It shares stock with Square automatically, but it means moving your website off Wix.
If you want to keep both Square and Wix, read on.
Option 1: update both sides by hand
Fine for a handful of one-off items. After each in-store sale, lower the product’s stock in Wix dashboard > Store Products > Inventory. After each online order, lower the count in Square Dashboard > Items & services > Item library.
It breaks down as soon as you sell the same item in both places on a busy day: until you catch up, the web shop can sell stock you no longer have.
Option 2: export and import spreadsheets
Square can export your item library as a spreadsheet (Item library > Actions > Export library), and Wix Stores can import products from a CSV file. Some shops do this once a day or once a week.
Things to know:
- The two files have different columns, so you rework the sheet each time.
- An import overwrites counts. Any sale made between the export and the import is lost, on either side.
- It’s good for the first upload of products, not for day-to-day stock.
Option 3: an app that syncs as sales happen
A sync app listens for changes on both sides and copies them across within seconds. When you compare apps, check these points, because they decide whether you’ll still oversell:
- Both directions. An online order must lower the Square count, not only the other way round.
- Changes, not overwrites. If a customer buys online while you sell the same item in the shop, both sales must count. Apps that copy the whole number from one side to the other can lose one of them.
- A safety check. Webhooks are occasionally late or missed. A regular check that compares both sides catches what slipped through.
- Matching by SKU. Products should link automatically when the SKU is the same, and duplicate SKUs should be flagged, not guessed.
- Locations. Your online store should follow the stock of one chosen Square location, and sales at your other locations shouldn’t touch it.
- Your country and currency. Square is available in the US, Canada, the UK, Ireland, Australia, Japan, France and Spain. Check that the app works outside the US and handles your currency. Yen has no cents, and some currencies have three decimals.
Before you connect anything
- Give every item the same SKU in both places. Variants too: “TEE-RED-M” in Square and “TEE-RED-M” in Wix. Case and extra spaces usually don’t matter, but spelling does.
- Turn on stock tracking. In Wix, set the product to track quantity. In Square, turn on stock tracking for the item at your location.
- Decide which side has the right counts today. Usually that’s Square, because you count stock in the shop. The first sync copies counts from that side.
- Weighed items (coffee by the kg, cheese by the lb) can have fractional counts in Square. Online stores count whole units, so 2.5 kg shows as 2 online.
- Items with different prices per option. If the sync also copies prices, check how it handles a T-shirt whose sizes cost different amounts.
Our app: Inventory Sync for Square
We make Inventory Sync for Square, a Wix app built around the checklist above:
- Two-way stock sync within seconds, sent as changes, so sales on both sides at the same moment both count.
- Automatic linking by SKU, with duplicates listed for you to sort out.
- A safety check every 15 minutes, and an activity log of every change.
- One chosen Square location; works with any Square country and currency.
- Pro adds price sync in the direction you choose, imports Square items as Wix products, and creates Wix products in Square.
The Free plan syncs up to 25 items. Pro is $14.99 a month, or $12.49 a month billed yearly, with a 14-day free trial. Get it on the Wix App Market.
FAQ
Does Wix integrate with Square? Wix connects Square to Wix Restaurants orders. For Wix Stores products and stock there’s no built-in connection, so you need an app from the Wix App Market.
Can I use Square for in-store sales and Wix for my online store? Yes. Many shops do. The risk is overselling, which a two-way stock sync removes.
What happens if a customer buys online while I sell the same item in the shop? With a sync that sends changes, both sales are taken off the other side. With manual updates or spreadsheet imports, one of them can be lost until you recount.
Does it work in the UK, Canada or Australia? Square works in those countries, and so does Inventory Sync for Square. Prices are copied only when your Wix store and your Square location use the same currency.
Do I need to re-enter my products? No. Items with matching SKUs link automatically. Items that exist only in Square can be imported into Wix with Pro, and Wix-only products can be created in Square.
