Setup guide: Bulk Property Import & Export

This guide covers installing Bulk Property Import & Export in HubSpot, the permissions it asks for, how to use each feature, and how to disconnect or uninstall it, including what happens to your data.

1. Before you start

2. Install the app

  1. Install Bulk Property Import & Export (free while in beta; free for life for the first 25 accounts). Once the app is listed on the HubSpot App Marketplace, you can also install it from its listing.
  2. Choose the HubSpot account to install into.
  3. HubSpot shows the permissions screen (section 3). Review the permissions and click Connect app.
  4. While the app is not yet listed on the HubSpot App Marketplace, HubSpot shows a notice that the app has not been reviewed by HubSpot. This is normal for new apps.
  5. After connecting, HubSpot opens the app. You can open it again any time from the Marketplace icon in the top navigation, under your apps.

Right after install, the app reads your property settings once. That first snapshot is the starting point for the change log.

3. Permissions the app asks for

The app asks only for property settings permissions. It cannot see or change records.

Permission Scopes Why the app needs it
Contact property settings crm.schemas.contacts.read, crm.schemas.contacts.write Read, create and update contact properties, groups and options
Company property settings crm.schemas.companies.read, crm.schemas.companies.write The same for company properties
Deal property settings crm.schemas.deals.read, crm.schemas.deals.write The same for deal properties
Ticket property settings crm.schemas.tickets.read, crm.schemas.tickets.write The same for ticket properties
Custom object definitions (optional) crm.schemas.custom.read List your custom objects so you can import into them
Custom object property settings (optional) crm.schemas.custom.write Create and update properties of custom objects

The two optional permissions can be left out during install. Without them, the app works with contacts, companies, deals and tickets only. Full details are in the permissions and data table.

4. Configure

Open the app, then the Settings tab of the app in HubSpot (Marketplace icon > Connected apps > Bulk Property Import & Export > Settings). There you can:

No other configuration is needed.

5. Use the app

Import properties from CSV

  1. Open the app and click Import CSV.
  2. Choose how to add your data: paste CSV text, upload a CSV file, or enter a Google Sheet link. Download the CSV template from the import page to start.
  3. Click Preview changes. The preview lists every property and group and what will happen to it: create, update, no change, or error, with the reason. Nothing has been changed at this point.
  4. Fix any errors in your file and preview again, or tick Apply only the rows without errors.
  5. Click Apply. A progress bar shows the changes being applied; you can leave the page while they run.
  6. When it finishes, the results list any row that failed and HubSpot’s reason. Download the results as CSV if you need them.

Columns: object, name (internal name), label, type, field_type, group, group_label, description, options, options_mode, option_label and option_value (one option per row), hidden, form_field, display_order, number_format, unique and action. Options are separated by semicolons or line breaks; “Label|value” sets the internal value. Existing options are kept unless a row uses options_mode “replace” and you tick Allow removing options.

Export the property setup

  1. Click Export.
  2. Choose the objects (or leave empty for all), the format (CSV, CSV with semicolons for Excel in Norway and much of Europe, or JSON) and whether to include HubSpot’s default properties.
  3. Click Create download link, then Download the export. The link works for 15 minutes.

Copy to another account (Pro)

  1. Install the app in both accounts and link them in the settings (section 4).
  2. Click Copy to another account, choose the other account and the direction.
  3. Choose the objects and options. By default, properties that exist in both accounts are updated, and nothing in the target account is removed.
  4. Click Preview the copy, review the differences, then click Copy.

Change log

Click Change log to see the properties and options that were added, changed or archived, found by the nightly check, with the HubSpot user ID when HubSpot provides it. Filter by object, period or property name. On Pro, click Restore next to a change to put the previous definition back; the app shows a preview first.

6. Plans and billing

The Free plan needs no payment. To upgrade, open Plans in the app and choose Pro or Agency; payment runs through Stripe. See plans and pricing.

7. Disconnect the app

In the app settings, under Disconnect and delete data, type DELETE and click Disconnect and delete data. The app uninstalls itself from the account, revokes its access and deletes what it stored for that account at once. A paid plan is cancelled at the end of the paid period.

8. Uninstall the app

In HubSpot, click the Marketplace icon > Connected apps, find Bulk Property Import & Export, and choose Uninstall. The app’s access ends immediately. HubSpot’s own steps are in its knowledge base article Uninstall an app.
