How to run auctions from your Wix CMS: one auction per item on dynamic pages

If your Wix site keeps its items in a CMS collection (vehicles, property, art) and shows each one on a dynamic item page, you may want an auction on every item page. Wix has no built-in auction feature. This guide covers one way to do it with the app I make, Live Auctions & Bidding, and plainly what it does not do. Full disclosure: I built it.
What the app does
You create an auction from a CMS item and link it to that item’s dynamic page. On the page, set the Auctions widget to show the auction for this page’s CMS item. Each item page then shows its own auction, with the current price, a countdown and a bid form. A page whose item has no running auction says “There is no auction for this item right now.”
How to set it up:
- Add the Auctions widget to the dynamic item page (Add Elements, App Widgets).
- In the widget settings, choose “Auction for this page’s CMS item”.
- In the app dashboard, choose “Create from CMS items” and enter the ID of your collection. You find it in the CMS: open the collection, then Edit settings, where the ID is shown.
- Load the items, tick the ones you want, set a start bid and save them as drafts.
- Publish each auction when you are ready.
Who it is for
Sites that sell or show one-off things from a collection, such as vehicles, property or art, where every item has its own page and its own bids. Bidders need no account: a name and email, with a one-time email check on the first bid. The winner pays at your own Wix checkout.
Price
- Free: 1 auction at a time, unlimited bids.
- Pro: $11.99 a month, or $9.99 a month billed yearly. Unlimited auctions at a time, with fair use.
If you want an auction on many items at once, you need Pro.
What it does not do
- You enter the collection ID yourself. The app does not find your collections for you.
- Creating auctions is a batch you start: it is not automatic when you add a new item to the collection.
- If an item is removed from the collection, its auction is flagged. It is not ended for you.
- Auction countdowns do not show inside list rows (for example a repeater or grid of items). A countdown shows on the item page.
- There is no grouping of auctions.
- The confirm and pay pages that open from an email link are in English. The bidder page and emails come in 12 languages.
