Limit how many of one dish you take per day on Wix Restaurants Orders
By Kayabyte
A home bakery, a caterer or a small restaurant often has the same limit: “we can make 12 of this cake a day”, or “only two starters per order”. Wix Restaurants Orders has several ordering controls, but a limit on one dish is not among them. This page goes through what Wix documents, what you can do with Wix alone, and one app that does it.
What Wix Restaurants Orders can limit
Wix’s guide to order scheduling covers these controls (Wix guide):
- Lead time for preorder-only businesses: how far ahead customers have to order.
- A weekly cutoff: orders placed after it go to the following week.
- A cap on orders per 15-minute window, which you can restrict to chosen days and hours.
- A daily limit on pickup and delivery orders for preorder setups, which you can apply to chosen weekdays.
All of these count orders, not dishes. One order with ten cakes and one order with one cake use the same share of the limit. Menus, sections and items can also be made available on set weekdays or dates, which controls when a dish appears, not how many you sell.
Wix is open about the gap. Two of its help pages are feature requests, still collecting votes when I checked:
- Quantity limits for preorders in a time frame are not possible. Wix’s examples are 5 cakes per week or 15 orders per month (Wix request).
- A limit on how many dishes a customer can order from one menu section is not possible. Wix’s example is two appetizers per order (Wix request).
Neither page lists a workaround. I found no Wix forum thread that solves it either, so the two requests above are the real questions here.
What you can do with Wix alone
- Cap total orders per day. The daily order limit stops you taking more orders than you can handle. It doesn’t know how many cakes are in them.
- Take the dish off by hand. When you reach the day’s number, mark the dish sold out or hide it. It works, but someone has to watch the count and do it, and it fails when orders come in overnight.
- Custom code. Wix’s developer tools allow checkout rules written as code, which is a project for a developer, and I haven’t tested it for Restaurants.
Limiting a dish with an app (mine)
Full disclosure: I make Order Minimums & Limits. The free plan sets rules on Wix Stores products. On the Pro plan, rules can also apply to dishes on Wix Restaurants Orders (New). You choose the dishes by name, then set any of these:
- A daily limit. After that many units are due for a pickup or delivery day, the dish shows as sold out for that day, and shoppers who choose that day see your message. Days follow your site’s time zone, and the count is by the day the order is for, not the day it was placed.
- A notice period. The pickup or delivery time must be at least a set number of hours away, for example 48 hours for a wedding cake.
- A maximum per order for the chosen dishes.
What to know first:
- There is no menu-section setting. You pick dishes, so “two starters per order” means selecting the starters.
- It counts approved orders. Two shoppers placing the last unit at the same moment can both get through.
- If the app can’t check, the order goes through. A rule that can’t be read is skipped so sales aren’t blocked.
- I tested the rule logic with the app’s own tests and have not run a dish rule on a live restaurant site. The dish rules need the Pro plan.

FAQ
Can Wix Restaurants Orders limit how many of one dish I sell per day? Not as a setting. Wix has a daily limit on orders and says a quantity limit for preorders in a time frame isn’t possible yet.
Can I limit customers to two starters per order? Wix lists that as a feature request too. An app can set a maximum for chosen dishes.
Does the daily order limit count dishes? No, it counts orders.
