Pickup orders on Wix Stores: a ready-time note, same-day cut-offs and prep time

By Kayabyte

Disclosure: I make Pickup & Delivery Time Slots, a Wix app that I describe near the end. Everything about Wix below comes from Wix’s own help pages, which I quote and link in each section. Checked on 4 November 2026.

If you sell cakes, flowers, meal boxes or farm produce from a Wix store, you probably want customers to collect orders from you. The next question is always the same: how do you tell them when the order will be ready, and how do you stop people ordering for “today” when it is too late to make it? This page goes through what Wix Stores lets you set for pickup, what it only lets you set for local delivery, and what you can do about the gap.

What does Wix let you set on a pickup option?

Wix’s article Setting Up Store Pickup lists the fields of a pickup option. You enter a pickup name (“Customers see this name at checkout”), the pickup address, and pickup instructions. There is also one optional field:

(Optional) Enter a short note explaining when the order will be ready for pickup (100 characters max).

The same article says about the instructions: “Make sure customers have all the info they need, such as store hours and a description of where to find the pickup spot.”

So the ready-time note is text that you write once. The article does not describe the customer choosing a time, a limit on how many orders you take, or a cut-off after which “today” stops being offered for pickup.

How do you tell a customer the order is ready?

The same article answers it: in the Orders tab, open the order and click Send Pickup Ready Email. In Wix’s words, “Your customer receives an email informing them that the item is ready along with the address and pickup instructions.” It also says you can print a packing slip for pickup orders from the Orders tab, and links to the steps.

What can you do with the 100-character note?

The note is your only built-in place to set expectations, so use it for the rule, not for a promise about one order. Two examples I wrote (they are not from Wix), each under 100 characters:

Put the opening hours in the pickup instructions as well, because Wix suggests exactly that. If your prep time is longer for some products, say so on those product pages too, since the note applies to the whole pickup option.

This works if you can keep your promise by hand. It does not stop a customer ordering at 5:30 pm for a pickup you wanted to be tomorrow.

Does Wix have a cut-off time for same-day orders?

Yes, but for local delivery, not for pickup. Wix’s article Setting Up a Local Delivery Option says that with scheduled delivery you can choose from 3 delivery types: same day, next day, or minimum 2-day delivery. About cut-offs it says:

You can specify a cut-off time for the first 2 options. In other words, you can specify that customers who place orders before 2:00 PM will receive their orders on the same day / next day. You cannot set a cut-off time when you select the Minimum 2-day delivery option.

It also says that with a single delivery option (“Estimated delivery time” or “Delivery time slots”), “you cannot specify that customers need to place orders before a specific time.”

The same article describes delivery time slots: you choose the delivery days, when your delivery hours start and end, and you can add more slots to the same day, “up to 8 time slots per day”. To see which orders go where, it tells you to add the “Delivery Method” and “Delivery Time” columns to the Orders tab.

None of those settings is described for the pickup option, so a pickup-only business does not get a cut-off from them. If you also offer local delivery, you can use them for the delivery side.

Ways to get a pickup cut-off today

  1. Do it by hand. Write the cut-off in the pickup note and the instructions, and check new orders against it. It costs nothing and works at a few orders a day.
  2. Turn pickup into scheduled local delivery. If you can deliver nearby, local delivery with same-day or next-day type and a cut-off gives you a rule Wix enforces. Customers who want to collect still need a pickup option next to it.
  3. Use an app that adds a time picker to the pickup step. Look for lead time (the earliest slot is a set number of hours away), a cut-off after which the next day’s slots close, a limit per slot, and what happens to the order if the app’s service is slow.

Where Pickup & Delivery Time Slots fits (mine)

Pickup & Delivery Time Slots adds a time picker under the delivery options in the Wix Stores checkout. You set opening hours per weekday, the slot length and how many orders each slot takes. Full slots can’t be picked, and the chosen time is saved on the order.

On the current app page, a lead time and a cut-off after which tomorrow’s slots close are listed under the paid plan. The page says that on the free plan these can be saved but are not applied until you upgrade. Check the page for the current plans and prices, because they can change.

What it does not do, also from the app page: it does not block the Continue button (only Place order waits for a time), it is tested on the one-page Wix Stores checkout, and other checkouts are not confirmed, so place a test order first.

See it on the Wix App Market.

FAQ

Can I tell customers when their pickup will be ready without an app? Yes, in two places. The pickup option has an optional note of up to 100 characters about when the order will be ready, and you can send a Pickup Ready Email from the Orders tab when it is.

Can Wix stop customers choosing same-day pickup after a certain hour? The Wix help articles I read describe a cut-off for same-day and next-day local delivery, and describe none for pickup. Check the current articles, because Wix changes its settings often.

Can I limit how many pickup orders I take per hour in Wix? I found nothing about it in the pickup article. An app that adds time slots with a limit per slot is the usual answer.

Where do I see pickup orders by time? For local delivery time slots, Wix says to add the Delivery Time and Delivery Method columns to the Orders tab. With a slot app, the chosen time is saved on the order and the app lists upcoming orders by slot.
