DocuClipper alternatives for Mac: online service or an app on your Mac
By Kayabyte · Last updated 29 October 2026
DocuClipper is a well-known online service for turning bank and card statements into spreadsheet and accounting files. If you are looking for an alternative, the useful question is usually not “which one is better” but “do I want my statements processed online, or on my own Mac?” This page lays out the difference. We make a competing app, so check everything here against their site.
1. What is public about DocuClipper
From DocuClipper’s own site as of 29 October 2026 (prices and features change, so check before you decide):
- It is an online service. You upload PDFs, forward them to an email address, or sync a Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive or Box folder, and you work in a web account.
- It outputs Excel, CSV, QBO, IIF, OFX, QFX and QIF, and can push straight into QuickBooks Online and Xero.
- Pricing is per page per month. The pricing page lists Starter at 60 pages a month for USD 20.30 a month billed annually (30% off monthly billing), Business at 640 pages and Enterprise at 1,800 pages. Unused pages do not carry over.
- There is a 14-day free trial without a card, up to 120 pages.
- It states SOC 2 Type II, encryption in transit, and that you control retention and can delete documents.
For a bookkeeping firm handling many clients, cloud features such as email forwarding, shared projects and direct QuickBooks Online or Xero sync are real advantages. We are not going to argue otherwise.
2. When an app on your Mac fits better
Some people prefer that bank statements never leave their computer: account numbers, salary, rent and medical payments all sit in one file. Others convert a handful of statements a month and do not want to count pages. In those cases a local app is the simpler answer.
3. What to compare in any converter
Test with one of your own statements, ideally a long one with a messy layout, and compare:
- Where it runs. Uploaded to a server, or processed on your Mac.
- How it is priced. Per page, per month, or per year, and what happens to a 12-page statement.
- Checking. Does it tell you when the transactions do not add up to the statement’s closing balance?
- Formats. Does it write the file your software imports (QBO for QuickBooks, QFX for Quicken, YNAB, Xero, Beancount)?
- Scans. Does it read photos and scanned PDFs, and does it flag doubtful digits?
4. How Balanced differs
Balanced is the Mac app we make:
- It runs on your Mac. Statements are processed locally and never uploaded; there is no account.
- No page counting: a subscription covers as many statements and pages as you convert. Pro is USD 59 per year or USD 7.99 per month, up to 3 Macs, cancel anytime.
- No AI guessing: every number is copied from your statement and checked. A totals check compares opening balance plus transactions with the closing balance, and the running balance per row where the statement has one.
- Inputs: text PDFs, scanned PDFs and images (Apple’s on-device text recognition), CSV and TSV.
- Exports: CSV, Excel, OFX, QFX, QBO, QIF, YNAB, Actual Budget, Lunch Money, Xero bank statement CSV, Beancount and Ledger/hledger. It writes files; it does not sync into QuickBooks Online or Xero for you.
- Mac only (macOS 14 or later). If you need a web account for a team or direct cloud sync, DocuClipper or a similar service is the better fit.
Honest limits: results depend on the statement’s layout, so check the preview; poor scans can fail; password-protected PDFs need to be unlocked first.
Download Balanced and convert for free: the free version converts and checks everything and exports the first 10 transactions per file.
