Wix Events shows “Tickets Coming Soon” on a sold-out event: how to show “Sold Out”
By Kayabyte
Disclosure: I make Event Capacity & Waitlist, a Wix app that I describe near the end. The Wix parts below come from Wix’s own help pages and one forum thread, which I quote and link. I did not test these settings on a live site for this page. Checked on 4 November 2026.
The short answer
- To label a sold-out event, turn on the Sold Out ribbon in the event list (Display tab, Ribbons). Wix describes it as: “Sold Out Ribbon: All tickets for the event are sold out.”
- To change the text and the button a guest sees when tickets can’t be booked, edit the registration messages: Events > Manage > Settings > Registration messages. Wix says you can customize “the messages guests see in different situations, such as when tickets sell out, registration is closed, or after they register”, including “the text and button options”.
- Wix does not offer a waitlist for ticketed events, only for RSVP events. So a sold-out ticketed event cannot collect a waitlist with Wix alone.
What the question looks like
On the Wix forum, an organiser wrote: “Our live event for our client has some shows that are sold out, but the button for the sold out shows says ‘Tickets Coming Soon’ and I can’t figure out how to change that to ‘Sold Out’”, adding that “the status does show ‘sold out’ if I look at the ticket” (forum thread). The reply, from a user labelled Online Community Leader, was: “Go to Event List → enable the Sold Out Ribbon, so sold-out performances are clearly labelled”, with links to two Wix help pages. The thread I read shows no further reply, so I don’t know whether the organiser’s button text changed.
Option 1: the Sold Out ribbon in the event list
Wix’s article Customizing the Event List says ribbons “help event organizers and attendees quickly understand the status and availability of an event”. Open the event list settings, click the Display tab, click Ribbons, click the ribbon name and enable the Ribbon toggle. The ribbons it lists:
- Sold Out Ribbon: “All tickets for the event are sold out.”
- RSVP Closed Ribbon: “Registration is closed.”
- Join Waitlist Ribbon: “Displayed when an RSVP event has a waitlist.”
The Join Waitlist ribbon is for RSVP events. It is not described for ticketed events.
Option 2: edit the registration messages
Wix’s article Customizing Registration Settings & Messages says the messages cover “when tickets sell out, registration is closed, or after they register”, and that you can personalize “the text and button options”. The steps it gives: go to Events in your dashboard, click Manage next to the event, open the Settings tab, and click Edit next to the message under Registration messages. It also says editing these messages for RSVP and ticketed events “is only available on desktop”.
The messages the article lists:
- Tickets unavailable message: “Shown for ticketed events when tickets can’t be booked (e.g. past events). You can edit the message and button text.”
- Registration closed message: “Appears if you changed the registration status to ‘Closed’. You can edit the message and button text.”
- Thank you message: shown after guests register for an RSVP event.
The article does not say which of these a guest sees on a sold-out ticketed event, and its example for the tickets-unavailable message is past events. If your sold-out button says “Tickets Coming Soon”, check the tickets-unavailable message first, edit the text and button, and then view the live event page to confirm.
What to do after it sells out
Wix’s feature request page says: “Currently, it is not possible to create a waitlist for ticketed events. It is, however, possible to create a waitlist for an RSVP event” (Wix request). Wix describes the RSVP waitlist this way: when you raise the guest limit, “an automated email is sent to waitlisted guests” and spots fill “first-come, first-served” (RSVP waitlist article).
For a ticketed event you can add a plain “email us to be told if tickets return” line to the sold-out message, or use an app that collects the waitlist.
Where Event Capacity & Waitlist fits (mine)
Event Capacity & Waitlist adds one total ticket limit across all ticket types of a Wix event, and a waitlist for when it sells out. The details below come from the app page as I read it on 4 November 2026. If the page differs, the page is right.
- When no tickets are left, a “Sold out? Join the waitlist” form appears on the event page. Guests give their first name, last name, email and how many tickets they want.
- When tickets free up, the app reports the “Event waitlist spot opened” trigger to your Wix Automations, oldest sign-up first. The app does not send the emails itself; your automation does.
- A waitlisted guest does not get a ticket reserved. The page says: “The guest is told that tickets are available and buys them as usual.”
- Free covers shared capacity and the waitlist for 1 event. Plans and prices can change, so check the page.
What it does not do, from the same page: it does not send the emails itself, the page does not describe it changing your button text or ribbons (those are the Wix settings above), and two checkouts started at the very same moment could together go slightly over the total.
FAQ
How do I change “Tickets Coming Soon” to “Sold Out” in Wix Events? Turn on the Sold Out ribbon in the event list, and edit the registration messages (Events > Manage > Settings). Wix’s article does not say which message shows on a sold-out event, so check the live page after each change.
Does Wix Events have a waitlist for ticketed events? No. Wix says it is not currently possible. It exists only for RSVP events.
Can I edit the sold-out message on my phone? Wix says editing registration messages for RSVP and ticketed events is currently available only on desktop.
What did you test? I read the Wix pages and the forum thread on 4 November 2026 and the app page. I did not change a live event, so the button behaviour is as the sources describe it, not something I confirmed on a site.
