Can you take a deposit for Wix Events tickets? What Wix offers
By Kayabyte
Disclosure: I make Event Capacity & Waitlist, a Wix app for ticket limits and waitlists. It does not take deposits, and I mention it only at the end. The Wix parts below are my summary of Wix’s own help pages and one forum thread, which I link. I did not test these settings on a live event. Checked on 4 November 2026.
The short answer
- I found no setting in Wix Events that takes a deposit on a ticket and collects the balance later through the same order.
- Wix does offer authorize now, capture later for event orders. It holds the card payment instead of charging it. Wix says it is for Wix Payments only, the capture is manual, and you can capture the full amount or void it. Wix says partial capture is not possible.
- A deposit can be handled outside the ticket order: Wix Invoices can ask for a deposit as a percentage or a set amount, and a pay link can collect a payment. That is what the forum poster below tried.
- Taking any payment needs a Premium plan that accepts payments and a connected payment provider, according to a Wix Community Manager in the thread.
The question
On the Wix forum (July 2026), an organiser selling several ticket types wrote that they want a $150 deposit on two ticket types and full payment on the others. They had built the tickets as separate ticket types, then set up pay links and automated invoices with conditions. In their test they got a confirmation that a ticket was bought but no pay link, and turning off manual payments gave an error when the form was submitted (forum thread).
A user labelled Community Manager answered that accepting any payment needs a Premium plan that supports payments plus a connected processor, and that for the same ticket at different prices (for example adult, student, senior) you should use the price options format when setting up tickets. The thread shows no answer on how to collect the deposit itself.
What Wix documents
Authorize now, capture later. Wix’s article Authorizing Payments and Capturing Funds Later says this secures funds before an event order is fulfilled, for a deposit or a pre-payment. It is switched on per event under Settings, in the Payments section, and you must confirm that you will capture payments yourself. Then you open the order in the Orders tab and choose Capture payment or Void payment. The same article says:
- It works only with Wix Payments.
- Authorized payments are held for a short time (Wix says six days) and are voided automatically if you don’t capture them.
- You cannot capture part of the amount: it is the full amount or a void.
- There is no automatic capture.
- With the guest’s approval you can save their card for later payments.
So a hold is a way to reserve a payment, not a way to collect a small deposit now and the rest later.
Deposits through invoices. Wix’s article Wix Invoices: Request a Deposit says an invoice can include a partial payment as a deposit, as a percentage or a fixed amount, with the balance paid later. This sits outside Wix Events, so the ticket order and the invoice are two separate things you reconcile yourself.
Unpaid orders. Wix’s article Collecting Payment for Unpaid Orders describes sending a pay link, charging a card by hand (including a custom amount for a partial payment) and sending an invoice. It lists Stores, Bookings, Restaurants and Donations as the products it applies to and does not list Events.
Ways to approach it
- Sell the deposit as its own ticket. Create a deposit ticket type and a balance ticket type, and explain it on the event page. You track who paid the balance by hand.
- Take full payment for some tickets and use an invoice for the deposit tickets. This is the forum poster’s route; the thread shows it was not working for them yet.
- Authorize and capture for high-value add-ons. Use the hold feature when you will charge the full amount later.
I did not try these on a live event.
Where Event Capacity & Waitlist fits (mine)
Event Capacity & Waitlist sets one total ticket limit across all ticket types and adds a waitlist for a sold-out event. It does not take deposits or change how guests pay. Note that if you sell a deposit ticket and a balance ticket per guest, each guest uses two tickets, which a total ticket limit would count twice. The app page, as I read it on 4 November 2026, is the source for what it does.
