How to take a deposit on a Wix site: Bookings, Hotels, Stores and rentals

By Kayabyte

Disclosure: I make Stay Direct and Hotel & B&B Booking System, two Wix apps that I describe near the end. The Wix parts below come from Wix’s own help pages, which I quote and link. Checked on 4 November 2026.

“Can customers pay a deposit and the rest later?” is one of the first things people ask when they take bookings or orders on Wix. The answer depends on which Wix product the customer is buying from. This page goes through each one.

Wix Bookings: services with a deposit

Wix’s article Choosing How to Charge for Your Wix Bookings Services lists the ways to charge when a client books: the entire amount online, the entire amount in person, either, or “Online deposit and the rest in person (with an option to allow clients to pay full amount online).”

To set it up, open the service, go to Price & payment, pick a price type, choose Online deposit and the rest in person under Payment preferences, enter the amount in the Deposit field, and save. There is an optional toggle, Allow clients to pay full amount online.

Three notes from the same article:

Wix Bookings is built for appointments, classes and courses. The same article does not describe stays that run over several nights.

Wix Hotels by HotelRunner: a deposit policy

For hotels, B&Bs and guesthouses, the newer Wix Hotels by HotelRunner has a deposit policy. Wix’s article Creating and Managing Your Cancellation and Deposit Policies lists three fee types: a “single, fixed deposit per stay”, a percentage “based on the total cost of your guests’ stay”, or a “fixed deposit amount for each night”. You can turn it off at any time. It warns: “Your deposit policy is not applied when a non-refundable cancellation policy is enabled.” I wrote more about it in Cancellation and deposit policy for a B&B or small hotel on Wix.

Wix Stores: no deposit option

Wix’s feature request page Accepting Partial Payments (Deposits) says: “Currently, it’s not possible to accept partial payments or deposits in Wix Stores.” Its update adds that you can accept a partial payment for an unpaid order by manually entering credit card details (it says this is available if you accept payment through Wix Payments or Isracard), and that customers can pay in installments with certain payment methods.

So for a product that needs a deposit (a made-to-order piece, a rental item), the options in the article are manual: create the order, then take the rest yourself.

What to write whichever way you take a deposit

Guests and customers want to see, before they pay:

  1. How much is due now and how much later.
  2. When the rest is due.
  3. What happens to the deposit if they cancel, in plain words.

Put these on the product or room page and repeat them in the confirmation.

Where Stay Direct and Hotel & B&B Booking System fit (mine)

Both apps take bookings on your own Wix site and use your site’s checkout. The details come from the app pages as I read them on 4 November 2026. If a page differs, the page is right.

What they do not do, from the same pages: neither is a channel manager, and the deposit is a share of the total, not a fixed amount per stay or per night.

See them on the Wix App Market: Stay Direct and Hotel & B&B Booking System.

FAQ

Can I take a deposit in Wix Bookings? Yes, for services, with “Online deposit and the rest in person”. Wix says the feature is “not yet available for all users”.

Can I take a deposit in Wix Stores? Wix’s feature request page says it is not currently possible. It lists manual partial payment on an unpaid order and installments as alternatives.

Does Wix Hotels have a deposit setting? Yes. Wix Hotels by HotelRunner has a deposit policy with a fixed amount per stay, a percentage, or a fixed amount per night.

Can I take a deposit for a holiday rental that books by the night? Wix Bookings does not describe multi-night stays. Wix Hotels by HotelRunner or a booking app with a deposit share are the options.
