Per-kg or per-lb shipping on Wix Stores: ranges, live rates, or a price per kilo
By Caner Kaya, Kayabyte
Many couriers price by weight: a base price, then a set amount for every extra kilo or pound. Wix Stores doesn’t have that field. Its Rate by weight gives one price per weight range, with up to 30 ranges. You can get close to per-kg pricing with ranges, and for most shops that’s enough. This page shows how, where it stops, and the other routes.
What Wix’s rate by weight does
You find it under Settings > Shipping, delivery & fulfillment. In a region, add a rate and choose Rate by weight. Then you add weight ranges, each with its own price (Wix guide):
- Up to 30 ranges. The top of one range is the bottom of the next.
- The price is for the whole range. A 2.1 kg order and a 2.9 kg order in the 2 to 3 kg range pay the same.
- Every product needs a shipping weight. Wix says: “If a product doesn’t have a weight added, it’s calculated as though it weighs 0.”
- Weights are in kilograms or pounds. Grams and ounces aren’t possible, so convert them: 500 g is 0.5 kg, 8 oz is 0.5 lb (Wix request).
- You can tick free shipping above an order amount in the same rule.
There’s no “price per kg” or “each additional kg” setting.
How to get close to per-kg pricing with ranges
Say your courier charges 6.00 for the first 2 kg and 1.50 for each kilo after that. Write it out as ranges of 1 kg:
| Weight | Price |
|---|---|
| 0 to 2 kg | 6.00 |
| 2 to 3 kg | 7.50 |
| 3 to 4 kg | 9.00 |
| 4 to 5 kg | 10.50 |
| … | +1.50 each kg |
| 28 to 29 kg | 46.50 |
| 29 kg and up | 48.00 |
That takes 28 rows, so it fits inside the limit of 30. Three things to watch:
- Each range is rounded up. A 3.1 kg order pays the 3 to 4 kg price, 10.50 where it should cost 9.15. Most couriers round up to the next kilo anyway, so this often matches what you pay.
- The last range is flat. Everything above 29 kg pays the same. If you sell heavy items, use 2 kg steps (that reaches past 50 kg) or put heavy products in their own delivery profile with its own rates (Wix guide).
- Weight and price can’t be mixed in one rule. Wix says “it is not possible to combine shipping rules based on weight with shipping rules based on price” (feature request). The free shipping tick box is the one exception.
A spreadsheet helps: one column for the weight, one for base + (weight - included) × price per kg, then copy the numbers into Wix.
Live carrier rates
If you’d rather charge what the carrier charges, use live rates. Wix has built-in USPS rates for US merchants, and carrier apps such as Shippo, ShipStation and Easyship for other countries (Wix guide). Live rates depend on good product weights, and the price comes from the carrier, not from a table you set.
Fits best: shops that ship with one of those carriers and want the exact postage at checkout.
When ranges stop working
Ranges are fine for most shops. They get awkward when:
- you sell by weight with a wide spread, from 200 g to 60 kg, and the last flat range undercharges heavy orders;
- you want an exact price for every gram, not rounded to the next range;
- you need different per-kg prices for different countries, or for postcodes such as islands, on top of the weight price;
- you want a base price plus per kg plus a lowest and highest price in one rate.
A price per kg or lb with an app (mine)
Full disclosure: I make Shipping Rate Rules, an app that adds your own shipping options to the Wix Stores checkout. For per-kg pricing it has:
- A starting price plus “Add per kg” for every kilo above a Weight included in the price. The example above is a starting price of 6.00, 2 kg included and 1.50 per kg. Fractions count: 5.4 kg costs 6.00 + 3.4 × 1.50 = 11.10. Your currency’s rounding applies to the final price.
- Your choice of unit for each option: kg, g, lb or oz. Wix sends cart weights in kg or lb, and the app converts them, so you can charge per pound in a store set up in kilograms.
- A default weight for products that have none, so they don’t ship as 0.
- A lowest and highest price, and free shipping above a cart value.
- Where each option applies: countries, states or regions, and postcodes, such as a prefix like “NW1” or a range like “0150-0199”. On the Pro plan, zone prices can replace or add to the price for parts of the area, like a surcharge for islands.
You can test a cart weight in the dashboard before you save, and the free plan runs one shipping option at a time.
What it doesn’t do: no live carrier rates, no pricing by distance and no pricing by box size. It uses the weights on your products. You add the app to each shipping region in Wix with a backup rate, which Wix shows if none of your options fits or the app doesn’t answer in time. If the region also keeps its own Wix rates, shoppers see both.

FAQ
Can Wix charge shipping per kg? Not as a price per kilo. Rate by weight gives one price per weight range, with up to 30 ranges, so you write per-kg pricing out as ranges.
Can Wix use grams or ounces for shipping? No. Wix accepts kilograms or pounds. Convert grams and ounces first, with a zero before the decimal point (0.5, not .5).
What happens to products without a weight? Wix counts them as 0, so they ship at the lowest range price. Add a weight to every physical product and variant.
Can I charge per kg and still give free shipping over an amount? Yes. The free shipping tick box in Rate by weight does that. Other mixes of weight and price aren’t possible in one Wix rule.
