Wix Stores pickup date for cakes and custom orders: asking for 14 days’ notice
By Kayabyte
A cake decorator posted on the Wix forum in July 2024. They wanted to sell cakes in Wix Stores, with variants and several images, and let customers pick a pickup date from a date picker. The date had to be at least 14 days away, and only on the days and times they choose. Wix Restaurants had something like that but not the Stores product options. They asked how to combine them (forum thread). This page goes through what Wix offers for this, what a reply suggested, and where an app fits.
What the thread suggested
The one reply listed workarounds. State the minimum notice in each product description and link to a page with pickup days and times. Or use Wix Bookings to schedule the pickup, with the cakes shown on a separate page. Or build a date picker with Velo code, which the reply described as complex and not officially supported on product pages. I haven’t tested any of these.
What Wix documents
- Stores pickup. A pickup option in your shipping settings has no time choice, and a customer can’t pick a day. Wix’s request for pickup times and delivery dates is long-standing; see my guide on pickup times in Wix Stores for the details and the vote count.
- A note on the pickup option. Wix lets you add a short ready-time note to a pickup option. It is text for the customer, not a rule the checkout enforces (my guide).
- Wix Restaurants scheduling. Preorder-only businesses can set a lead time, a weekly cutoff, a cap on orders per 15-minute window and a daily order limit (Wix guide). That is the feature the poster liked, and it belongs to Restaurants orders, not Stores.
- Local delivery dates. Another forum poster found that the date picker for local delivery in the checkout showed dates up to a month ahead and wanted one week. Wix support told them a newer version was still being rolled out (forum thread).
Options with Wix alone
- Write the notice into every product and make it hard to miss. Customers still can’t pick a date at checkout, so you confirm by message.
- Take the date as a product option or a note. Add a variant or a text field for the requested date and check it by hand. Wix doesn’t stop a date that is too soon.
- Wix Bookings for the pickup with Stores for the cakes, as the reply suggested. Two checkouts for the customer.
- Custom code with Velo, which needs a developer.

Full disclosure: I make Pickup & Delivery Time Slots, an app that adds a pickup or delivery time picker to the Wix Stores checkout. For the cake case, the settings that matter are on the Pro plan:
- Lead time in hours, up to 30 days. Fourteen days is 336 hours; the earliest choice is now plus that.
- Opening hours per weekday, so customers only see the days and times you work, with a slot length and an order limit per slot.
- Blackout dates for holidays, and a cut-off for tomorrow’s slots.
- How far ahead shoppers can look, from 1 to 60 days.
The picker sits in the checkout delivery step, the time shows on the order, and a full slot is shown as full.
What to know first:
- The free plan doesn’t apply a lead time. Free is pickup only, one schedule and three slots a day. Lead time, cut-off and blackout dates need Pro.
- Your store needs a pickup option in its shipping settings, and the store has to be on Wix Stores.
- I have not run the Pro settings on a live site. My test sites are on the free plan, so the lead time is read from the code and its tests.
- If the app can’t answer in time, shoppers can continue without a time and the order is listed as placed without one.
