Made-to-measure products on Wix: fabric, glass, blinds and flooring

By Kayabyte

Some products are sold by the size the customer needs: fabric by the yard, glass cut to size, blinds for a particular window, flooring for a room, timber by the length. Wix Stores has no built-in way to price a product from a size the customer types. Options add fixed amounts, and the unit price display only shows a figure. Here is how the common cases work with a calculator app. Full disclosure: Kayabyte makes Custom Size Price Calculator, which is what I use in the examples.

In each case you set the Wix product price to your price per unit, then create a calculator in Price calculators for that product. The app multiplies the size by the price, applies your rules, and adds the real product to the cart at that price with the size shown on the cart, checkout and order.

Fabric by the yard

Shoppers type a length in yards. You sell in half-yard steps with a minimum cut.

A customer types 2.3 yd. It is rounded up to 2.5 yd, so 2.5 x $14.00 = $35.00. Fabric types or colors can be options with their own price per yard. The Fabric by the yard starting point sets this up.

Glass or acrylic cut to size

Price by area, with limits you can actually cut.

A 24 x 36 in acrylic sheet is 864 in². At $0.12 that is $103.68. A thickness option, such as 3 mm or 6 mm, can carry its own price per unit. A size past your maximum shows a plain message, so you are not asked to cut a sheet you cannot handle.

Blinds: width by drop

Customers give the width and the drop. You charge by area with a minimum price, because a very small blind costs nearly as much to make.

A 1.2 m wide, 1.5 m drop blind is 1.8 m² and 1.8 x $45.00 = $81.00. A 0.6 x 0.8 m blind is 0.48 m², $21.60, so the $60.00 minimum applies. Fabrics or control types can be options with their own prices.

Flooring per square foot, sold in boxes

Flooring is priced per ft² but sold in boxes. Use the billing step to round up to whole boxes.

A room of 14 x 12 ft is 168 ft². Rounded up to the next box size, that is 180 ft², and 180 x $3.20 = $576.00. The Flooring per ft² starting point is a good base. Check the box size of each product and set the step to match.

Timber and trim by the length

Where only one number matters, use the Length type.

A customer needs 2.34 m. It is rounded up to 2.4 m, and 2.4 x $4.50 = $10.80. On Pro, a weight per meter lets weight-based shipping rates see the right weight.

Plans

Free has 1 calculator on up to 3 products, with Area and Length types, setup fee, minimum price, size limits and rounding. Pro is $9.99 per month with a 14-day free trial, and adds more calculators, volume and custom formula types, and price tiers.

FAQ

Can I sell fabric by the yard on Wix? Yes, with a calculator app. Wix Stores alone sells at a fixed price per product, so the length has to be turned into a price by something. See How to charge by square foot or square meter on Wix Stores for the background.

Can I stop customers ordering sizes I can’t make? Set minimum and maximum sizes. Anything outside them gets a message after the shopper leaves the field.

Does it handle waste or cutting allowance? Rounding up to a billing step covers box sizes and cut lengths. If you need more, check the app page for what is supported before you rely on it.

Do coupons work? Yes, discounts apply to the calculated price.
