Gridhand vs XLclick vs XLWizard: which Excel tool for Mac?
By Kayabyte · Last updated 1 November 2026
Short answer: these three solve different problems on a Mac. XLclick and XLWizard work inside Excel (an add-in and a library of macros, add-ins and scripts) on Windows and Mac. Gridhand is a standalone Mac app for batch jobs on files: merge, split, compare, clean, find and replace, convert. Pick by where you want to work, not by price. We make Gridhand; the other columns come from each product’s own pages, read on 1 November 2026, so check them before you buy.
| Gridhand | XLclick | XLWizard | |
|---|---|---|---|

Pick another tool when
- You want buttons inside Excel’s ribbon and tools that work on the sheet in front of you: XLclick.
- You want to pick a single macro for one job at a low price, or want the source of a script you can edit: XLWizard.
- You want Windows and Mac with the same add-in: XLclick or XLWizard (check each tool’s compatibility).
Pick Gridhand when
- You have a folder of files and one job to run over all of them: merge them, split them by a column, replace a name in 40 workbooks, convert 100 CSVs.
- You want a preview of what will happen, a report of what could not be carried over (pivot tables, macros, links), and originals that stay untouched.
- You want no macros to enable and no add-in to install.
- Limits: .xls and .numbers are not supported; it makes new files rather than editing the open one; no formula or sheet-design helpers.
What we could and could not verify
- XLclick (xlclick.com, checked 1 November 2026): Windows and Mac, Excel 2016 to 365, “34 tools”, one-time prices as listed on its pricing page; the download is “free to test” and no trial limits are stated. Its tool list names Combine Sheets, Compare Lists and Split Sheet to Files without describing them, so we cannot say how they work.
- XLWizard (xlwizard.pages.dev, checked 1 November 2026): per-tool and bundle prices and the 30-day refund as stated on its page; VBA macros and add-ins for Excel on Windows and Mac (Microsoft 365), Python scripts on any system, and one tool (Formula Auditor) marked Windows only. No dedicated merge or compare tool is listed, and no free trial is mentioned.
- Also on Mac: Withdata Excel Data Transformer merges and splits workbooks (macOS 10.15 to Sonoma and Windows builds listed; “$45.00 or less”; free trial, limits not stated; checked 1 November 2026).
- We did not test either product ourselves; features and prices change.
Questions
Which is best for merging many Excel files on a Mac? For folders of files, a tool that works on files, such as Gridhand, is the natural fit; XLclick lists a Combine Sheets tool, but its page does not say how it works.
Can XLclick or XLWizard split a sheet by column value? XLWizard’s Sheet Splitter (a VBA macro, USD 5) splits a worksheet into separate files or tabs based on a column value. XLclick lists a “Split Sheet to Files” tool but its page does not say whether it splits by column value.
Are they alternatives to Kutools on Mac? They are the Mac-compatible options we found. See Kutools for Mac alternative.
Do they change my original files? Add-ins and macros often work inside the open workbook, so keep a backup. Gridhand writes new files and never modifies the originals.
