How do you recover deleted Calendar events on a Mac?
By Kayabyte · Last updated 2 November 2026
To recover deleted Calendar events on a Mac, try Edit, Undo straight away, check that the calendar is still ticked in the sidebar, and restore a dated archive from iCloud.com (Account Settings, Data Recovery, Restore Calendars and Reminders). If the events are older than that, they are in a Time Machine or iPhone backup. NoteRescue lists the events your backups hold that you no longer have and writes them as .ics files for Calendar’s own import.
Step 1: undo, and check the sidebar
Choose Edit, Undo in Calendar if it was a moment ago. Then show the calendar list (Calendar, Show Calendar List) and tick every calendar: a calendar that is unticked looks like missing events. Check Calendar, Settings, Accounts too, in case an account was turned off.
Step 2: check other devices before they sync
A deletion syncs everywhere. If an iPhone or iPad was offline, it may still show the events; open Calendar there and note the details before it goes online.
Step 3: restore a calendar archive from iCloud.com
- On iCloud.com open Account Settings and find Data Recovery.
- Choose Restore Calendars and Reminders and pick an archive from before the loss.
- Restore it. Apple archives your current calendars first, but the restore replaces them on every device, so note anything you added since.
Step 4: use a backup
Time Machine keeps your calendar data in your user Library. On the macOS 26 virtual Mac we tested, Calendar kept it in ~/Library/Group Containers/group.com.apple.calendar. Restoring that folder by hand swaps your whole calendar and iCloud may override it, so quit Calendar, make a safety copy first and keep Wi-Fi off while you copy events out. For the details of the swap method, see restore Calendar events from Time Machine.
A faster way: NoteRescue
NoteRescue scans Time Machine snapshots and iPhone backups, compares the events with Calendar today and lists each as missing or changed. The scan is free.
Steps with NoteRescue
- Open NoteRescue, allow Full Disk Access and press Scan.
- Open the Calendar and Reminders row, filter to Missing and select the events.
- Choose a folder and recover. In Calendar choose File, New Calendar and name it “Recovered”. Click Open in Calendar, choose “Recovered” in the window Calendar shows and click OK. Calendar asks for a destination for each event, so with many events expect to repeat that.
Events come back without sending invitations; attendees are listed in the event’s description. Calendar and Reminders is USD 19.99, All apps USD 39.99; one item is free as a proof. Download NoteRescue
What cannot come back
- Subscribed calendars (such as holidays) are not listed; they come back from their source.
- Events created and deleted between two backups are in no backup.
- iCloud may sync an old state back or remove a restored event again. See why iCloud brings data back.
- Reminders are handled differently; see recover deleted Reminders.
Questions
Is there a Recently Deleted folder in Calendar? We found none in Calendar on the Mac. Use Undo, an iCloud archive or a backup.
Will restored events send invitations again? No, NoteRescue’s events come back without sending invitations.
Can I restore one event? Yes with NoteRescue: you pick single events. By hand you restore a whole calendar.
