How to get a portfolio view in monday.com
By Kayabyte
Short answer: monday.com’s built-in portfolio solution gives you a portfolio board over connected project boards, and it’s on the Enterprise plan. On other plans, you can build a summary board with Connect Boards and Mirror columns, a dashboard with connected boards, or use a marketplace app. Which one fits depends on how many boards you have and who needs to see the result.
A portfolio view answers one question: where does everything stand? This guide goes through the options, step by step, with their limits.
Option 1: the portfolio solution (Enterprise)
monday.com’s support article describes a portfolio board that gives a high-level view of connected project boards. You add it from the left pane: click +, choose New Portfolio, name it, then use Add project to create or connect project boards.
What to know:
- It’s marked “Available on Enterprise plan”. Only Enterprise project boards can connect to a portfolio.
- monday’s mondayDB 2.0 article mentions up to 200 connected boards for the portfolio solution.
- It works with project boards, so existing ordinary boards may need converting.
If you’re already on Enterprise and your work is in project boards, start here.
Option 2: a summary board with Connect Boards and Mirror columns
This works from lower plans, with more manual work.
- Create a board with one item per project.
- Add a Connect Boards column and link each project’s items or board.
- Add Mirror columns for the dates and status you want to see.
- Add a Timeline view or Gantt view to this summary board.
What to know:
- The number of boards you can connect to one board depends on the plan. monday’s linkage article lists 1 on Basic, 5 on Standard, 20 on Pro and 200 on Enterprise, with up to 60 per column. Check your account, since limits change.
- Someone has to add each new project by hand.
- A mirror shows the linked values. To see one overall start and end, check the mirror column’s summary setting for your column type.
Option 3: a dashboard
- Create a dashboard and open Connect boards.
- Add a Gantt or Timeline widget, and battery or chart widgets for status.
What to know:
- Dashboards have a limit on connected boards. monday’s mondayDB 3.0 article lists up to 50 connected boards per dashboard on Enterprise, with larger numbers planned for later releases. Lower plans have lower limits, so check yours.
- A dashboard holds up to 30 widgets.
- monday’s community has open requests about sorting items by date across boards and keeping a manual order in the dashboard Gantt. Check whether that has changed by the time you read this.
- New boards don’t join by themselves, unless you connect them.
Option 4: a marketplace app
Several apps add a portfolio layer. They differ a lot:
- Project Portfolio Management - PPM and BigPicture PPM are planning suites with scheduling, dependencies and resource management. Choose one of these if you want to plan from one place.
- Portfolio Roadmap & Timeline is our app. It’s a read-only reporting layer: choose boards, whole workspaces or folders, and it draws one sorted, grouped timeline, with a saved priority order, baselines and a link for people without a seat. It doesn’t schedule anything and can’t change your boards.
See Portfolio Roadmap & Timeline. It has a free plan for one roadmap across five boards.
Which one to pick
| Situation | Start with |
|---|---|
| Enterprise, work in project boards | The portfolio solution |
| A handful of projects, some manual work is fine | Summary board with mirrors |
| Numbers and charts matter more than order | Dashboard |
| Dozens of boards, an ordered timeline for leadership | A marketplace app |
Common questions
Is there a portfolio view on the Pro plan? The portfolio solution is Enterprise. On Pro, use a summary board, a dashboard or an app.
Can I report across portfolios? monday’s dashboard article says you can connect boards from different portfolios directly to a dashboard.
What’s the difference between a project and a portfolio? A project board holds the details of one project. A portfolio sits above several and shows how they stand.
Plan names and limits are from monday.com’s support pages as read on 3 November 2026. They change, so check them for your account.
